In His Hands

By Tameka Warren

Verses To Read:

“He’s got the whole world in His hands. He’s got the whole world in His hands. He’s got the whole world in His hands. He’s got the whole world in hands.”

This is such a common Christian children’s song. I remember learning it in Sunday school and periodically humming it throughout my life. What a big God He must be to have the world in His hands. But how often do we think of that?

Sometime in 2023, I was about to explode spiritually. I didn’t feel like I was around anyone who was experiencing the magnitude of the Holy Spirit like I was. I was humbled and excited to be in His presence day in and day out. When I would try to share my excitement, the atmosphere seemed to shift like, “No need to be that radical about Jesus.” So, I just started posting on my social media every Monday, “I believe in miracles.” Even though no one wants to have their backs against the wall and need a miracle, it is AWESOME to know that I serve a God who is able to perform miracles for me and through me. So, when I am at a point of surrender and He is using me, I am further proof of Him having the WHOLE world in His hands.

Each day, we start our day. There’s list of things to do: pray, read devotional, complete hygiene routine, go to work, go to school, go to church, eat (usually at least 3 times), clean (if I feel like it), visit family (again, if I feel like it), participate in extracurricular activities, go to small group, self-care, etc.

A fast makes it on that list at least once a year. It’s a good-looking list and Jesus- tasks are on the list, so surely I am thinking about Him, right? Not necessarily. At best it means we have a modified routine that includes something spiritual, but it doesn’t mean the miracle of change has occurred and new fruit is being produced in our lives. Since we have access to such a big God, we should take advantage of just basking in His presence while He prepares us to access the vastness of His glory.

John 14:11-14 is an awesome morsel to take in. Especially verse 12 when Jesus says “I’ll tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works…” The word that is the gateway to the most power in this scripture is “in”. During the busyness of our days, we fully acknowledge Christ and that seems synonymous with believing in Him, but let’s challenge our living. Let’s make sure we see our lives fully in His hands. If we take that view, how much differently would we live if every time we moved, we looked for the hand of God?

Questions To Consider:

1. Who is God to you, and have you allowed Him to be big in your life?

2. What are you willing to sacrifice to live fully in God’s hands? Anything? Everything?

3. Are you willing to surrender to be used by God to do greater works?

Prayer to Pray:

Lord, we acknowledge your holiness and yield to your greatness as our Father and our King. We bless Your name for adopting us into Your royal family and we are humbled that you call us friend. Our prayer is that we listen obediently to your will so that we can come to the end of ourselves and surrender to the vastness of Your glory. Let us reverence and honor you to a greater degree as we submit to living life in your hands. Amen.
